Rapid growth in western North Carolinia in recent years has brought with it new challenges including sprawl, habitat loss and a scarcity of affordable farmland. This has many residents and planners rethinking our relationship to land use. Across the country, communities and individuals are beginning to ask important questions about how to respond to accelerating change. On April 17, 2014, Sustainable Now will present the Four Futures for Mountain Farmland Symposium. A diverse group of thought leaders will convene for a day of eye-opening presentations that will help land owners, community leaders, planners, farmers and neighborhoods think through land use in a new way. We’ll look at questions like, “What is sustainable land use? How would it benefit me and my community? Why should I be paying attention to this conversation?” http://sustainablenow.us/symposium/
