The way we package produce-whether its a bunch of carrots at the farmers market or bushel of cabbage for wholesale market-effects your ability to sale. Packaging can extend the shelf life of produce and grab a costumer’s eye. However, it can also provide essential information to the buyer. Madison County Cooperative Extension will provide a free workshop to discuss proper packaging of vegetables and fruits. Come learn about standardized packaging requirements for wholesale and retail markets, labeling requirements, and uniform grades and sizes. We will discuss packaging options for different vegetable and fruit products as well as have samples on hand for you to see.
This free workshop is held on Friday, February 17th from 2-3:30 at Madison County Cooperative Extension office. If you have any questions contact Jenn Beck at 649-2411.
