Fresh at Farmers Markets This Week

The new year is upon us and a whole year of delicious local food is ahead! Start the year off at Asheville-area indoor winter farmers markets this Saturday, January 6.

What can you expect to find this weekend? Roots and storage crops such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, kohlrabi, winter squash, cabbage, apples, and turnips. Also find greenhouse and/or tunnel grown crops such as dark leafy greens, salad mixes, lettuces, and radishes. And don’t forget meats, eggs, breads, cheeses, baked goods, prepared foods, crafts, and more!

On January 6, Asheville City Market opens for the winter at their indoor location, the Asheville Masonic Temple, in downtown Asheville, Saturday mornings 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Many vendors from the North Asheville Tailgate Market can be found at the YMCA Indoor Winter Market, also beginning January 6, held in the parking lot of the Woodfin YMCA, Saturday mornings, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.

The YMCA is also hosting a South market for the second year, which will be held Wednesdays 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM in the YMCA in the lobby of the Reuter Family YMCA in Biltmore Park, starting January 17.

Find a full list of 2018 winter markets throughout the region at our “Winter Farmers Markets” page. Area farmers tailgate markets take place throughout the region.
