NC Foothills Farm Tour: Looking Glass Creamery and C-Saw Hill

July 31 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

One of our favorite aspects of visiting a farm is getting to spend some time with the farmers themselves, and really getting a close-up view of how their farm operations work. It’s all about the community connections we make.

And so for 2021, we are offering more intimate farm tour options. Once a month, throughout June-October we will be hosting a day of activities with a farm tour in the morning and another farm tour in the afternoon.

We recommend that you turn the event into a whole day with lunch out at a local restaurant, and maybe even a visit to a local winery to round the day out.

*Please note that tours will start right at the start time listed for each farm stop*

July 31 Farm Stops:

Looking Glass farm tour from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm:

Looking Glass Creamery is a farmstead, seasonal dairy at heart but is growing to include other types of food preservation and fermentation on the farm including delicious hard cider and a line of exceptional small batch pickles. Come learn from the makers and in between sessions get a guided talk about the dairy and cheesemaking process from the owners.

C-Saw Hill farm tour from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm:

C-Saw Hill Farm is a pasture based microdairy. Participants on the tour can expect a tour of our operation which includes: microdairy facilities with a solar hot water system, laying hens, pasture raised hogs, a silvagrazing program, and an apiary on 37 acres in the Harris Community.

Participants will see a mozzarella cheese making demonstration and a butter making demonstration. Participants will be able to purchase kits to make their own mozzarella cheese at home complete with rennet, citric acid and a ½ gallon of milk for $10. They will be able to purchase a pint of cream for $10.

We will also have raw “pet” milk, assorted cheese curds, and yogurt for sale along with grassfed beef and eggs.
