NC Foothills Farm Tour: TK Family Farm and Subtle Seed Farm

September 18 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

One of our favorite aspects of visiting a farm is getting to spend some time with the farmers themselves, and really getting a close-up view of how their farm operations work. It’s all about the community connections we make.

And so for 2021, we are offering more intimate farm tour options. Once a month, throughout June-October we will be hosting a day of activities with a farm tour in the morning and another farm tour in the afternoon.

We recommend that you turn the event into a whole day with lunch out at a local restaurant, and maybe even a visit to a local winery to round the day out.

*Please note that tours will start right at the start time listed for each farm stop*

September Farm Stops:

TK family farm tour from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm:

TK Family Farm is a 15-acre farm located in the Southeastern corner of Polk County and was started in 2014. We grow apples using a high-density trellis system with 1,200-1,900 trees to the acre and have around 12 varieties of apples. We are Polk County’s only high-density apple orchard and retail fruit stand. Tour participants can expect to learn about modern apple production in a high-density apple orchard and the benefits of growing apples in this system. In addition, participants will also see the small packing line in operation along with the cider production. Stop by and see the beautiful orchard and pick up some great Polk Co. apples.

Subtle Seed farm tour from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm:

Join us at Subtle Seed Farm for a detailed tour of our family run hemp operation. We will guide visitors through the whole process, from propagation and vegetation, to flowering and curing. We will offer a Q&A at the end and will have products available for purchase.
