Sierra Club: Governor Cooper’s Executive Order to Reduce Carbon Emissions

June 6, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

On June 6, Cassie Gavin, NC State Sierra Club state lobbyist, will explain Governor Roy Cooper’s Executive Order to reduce carbon emissions in the state by 40 percent from 2005 levels by 2025. Gavin will discuss what the order means and how we can help.

This talk is free and open to the public.

This executive order represents a major step by Governor Roy Cooper to address climate change, which is adversely impacting North Carolina’s communities. The latest science from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change underscores the need for immediate action to slow climate change.

Communities across North Carolina are ready to be part of a cleaner, more environmentally friendly economy that does not involve fossil fuels. In fact, some cities and counties in the state have already adopted 100 percent clean energy goals of their own.

Gavin will discuss the Executive Order and its impact on clean energy and climate change. She will explain how all of us can weigh in to influence the state’s clean energy plan to ensure we meet greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals.
Gavin has been the Director of Government Relations for the NC Chapter of the Sierra Club based in Raleigh for six years. An attorney, she previously worked in land conservation in Wilmington, NC.
Gavin represents the Sierra Club at the NC General Assembly and works with our agencies and the executive branch. In her free time, she enjoys kayaking and hiking.
