Sierra Club Webinar: Hikes for Healing and the African American Experience in Great Smoky Mountain National Park

February 4 @ 7:00 pm

On Thursday, Feb. 4, the WNC Sierra Club presents “Hikes for Healing and the African American Experience in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.”

This virtual presentation features the park’s Stephanie Kyriazis, deputy chief of resource education, and Antoine Fletcher, science communicator for the park and its Appalachian Highlands Science Learning Center at Purchase Knob.

Kyriazis facilitates “Hikes for Healing,” a series of hikes initiated by Superintendent Cassius Cash in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd. These hikes meld the restorative power of nature with the healing power of conversation.

Fletcher will address the park’s African American Experience Project, which seeks to uncover and share the history of the Black experience in the Smokies area over time.
