Wonderful Wild Foods of the Southern Appalachians

Part of the Organic Growers School 2019 Harvest Conference.

Led by Luke Cannon

A fun filled day of wild gourmet where we examine some of the tastiest wild edibles of our region. We’ll cover:

Plant and mushroom identification
Harvesting ethics and best practices
Parts of the plant to use
Preparation techniques

Weather permitting, about half of our day will be in a covered outdoor pavilion classroom and half will be out in the woods and fields meeting and exploring plants and fungi in their wild habitats. In-the-field instruction will include some light trail walking for one to two miles.

Appropriate for beginner and experienced wild foods enthusiasts, aspiring naturalists, botanists, ecologists, herbalists or anyone who has interest in bringing more fresh and local wild foods into their homes and diets while helping to positively steward our native ecosystems.
