Fresh at Farmers Markets This Week

Holiday shopping is down to the wire. Still haven’t found the perfect gift? Don’t fret, just stop by area farmers tailgate markets this week! Here are some highlights of what you might find for your weekly food list and gift ideas, which may even overlap.

**Note: Between December 23 and January 9, Buncombe County tailgate markets will have a hiatus. The YMCA Indoor Winter Market at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church and Asheville City Market – Winter at the Asheville Masonic Temple, downtown both open January 9.**

Preserved Products: Green River Picklers has delicious treats to share with your loved ones who love pickled foods. The “Spicy Appalachian Okra” is one of their most popular items. Visit them at Asheville City Market this week.

Crafts: Cutting boards are both beautiful and functional. Visit Highlander Handcrafted at Asheville City Market and Benbow & Associates at The Holiday Bazaar in North Asheville.

Body care products: Bella & Oliver Soap Co.’s “Rosemary & Grapefruit” soap was featured in Southern Living Magazine this past summer. Stop by and smell the aromas at Asheville City Market.

Holiday decorations: Fisher Branch Farm has gorgeous ornaments made with plants. Check out her creations at Asheville City Market.

Wild card item: Laundry detergent alternatives; soap nuts and laundry pills from Shecology. Perfect gifts for your cleanly and environmentally conscious friends and family. Visit Shecology at The Holiday Bazaar in North Asheville to look at her products and ask any questions you might have.

Vegetables: Despite the unseasonably warm weather, it’s still a great time for all varieties of winter squash. Also, there are still apples! Make sweet or savory pies.

Gift certificates: Ask your market manager if they have gift certificates available. Give your loved ones the gift of choosing their own local present this year.

Weaverville Tailgate Market: Holiday Market, 2 pm-6 pm, Located beside Lake Louise in Weaverville (regular location), every Wednesday through December 23.

West Asheville Tailgate Market: Indoor Holiday Market, 2:30 pm-6 pm, at Mothlight at Mr Fred’s, 701 Haywood Road, Tuesdays through December 22.

The Holiday Bazaar in North Asheville, noon-3 pm, at University Heights Blvd, UNC Asheville Campus (regular location), every Saturday through December 19.
