Fresh at Farmers Markets This Week

Shopping for Thanksgiving this week and weekend? The following Asheville-area farmers markets are open and ready to serve you so that you can serve up a fresh local feast. Expect meats, cheeses and produce like apples, greens, roots and winter squash, along with baked goods and gifts galore!

Black Mountain Tailgate Market will reopen for a one-day holiday market on Saturday, November 17, from 10 am until 1 pm. Expect seasonal foods and early holiday gifts.

French Broad Food Co-op Wednesday Tailgate Market is open Wednesday, November 14, and closes out their season on November 21. In addition to produce, meats, and cheeses, they often have fresh, hot bread straight from a wood-fired oven.

Leicester Farmers Market will close out their season on Saturday, November 17. Expect baked goods, produce, and meats other than turkey—like pork, lamb and beef—from Beulah Farm.

Montford Farmers Market is open Wednesday, November 14, and for last-minute shopping on November 21 (their last market of the season). Vendors like Firefly Farm (also at Yancey County Farmers Market this weekend) and Flying Cloud Farm (also at North Asheville Tailgate Market this weekend) will offer lots of winter squash for soups and sweets. Want someone else to do the baking? New vendor Emilou’s Famous Homestyle Goods (also find at Leicester Farmers Market) offers up mini candy roaster pies that can fit in the palm of your hand. Also find apples ready for baking from Creasman Farms. And take home Flying Cloud’s dried bouquets of sorghum berries and red Nippon Taka peppers for your table (pictured above).

North Asheville Tailgate Market is open Saturday, November 17. Have family coming into town and need gifts, or just want to spruce up your place? In addition to farmers, the market has lots of non-food vendors offering everything from handmade soaps (by Faerie Made; also at West Asheville Tailgate Market) to reusable sandwich bags for all those leftovers (from The High Fiber).

Weaverville Tailgate Market is closed this week but will re-open for last-minute shopping on Wednesday, November 21 (continuing through December).

West Asheville Tailgate Market will be open Tuesday, November 13, and for last-minute shopping on November 20 (their last market of the season). Hours are 2:30-5:30 pm. They hope to have Brussels sprouts, along with other fall/winter produce.

Note: Asheville City Market is closed Saturday, November 17, for the Asheville Holiday Parade. They will re-open on November 24 and continue through December.

Outside of Asheville, Haywood’s Historic Farmers Market, Historic Marion Tailgate Market, Jackson County Farmers Market, Madison County Farmers & Artisans Market, Mills River Farmers Market, and Yancey County Farmers Market are all open for Thanksgiving shopping. On Saturday, November 17, Jackson County Farmers Market will also host its annual seed exchange.
